Now that the Philippines is gearing up for the transition to digital broadcast, Sharp (Phils.) Corp.is leading the way with its latest lineup of Digital-Ready LED TVs. Out of all the digital broadcast systems available in the world, the Philippines has chosen the ISDB-T, or the Integrated Service Digital Broadcast-Terrestrial, a Japanese digital system, that’s currently used in Japan and a few Latin American countries. What sets this system apart from others – and what makes it ideal for the country – is its EWBS (Emergency Warning Broadcast System) feature.

EWBS has been proven beneficial to disaster-prone countries such as Japan, as it allows the government agencies (PAGASA, PHIVOLCS, NDRRMC) to transmit emergency warning information simultaneously through a variety of platforms including TV and mobile devices, so that everyone will receive timely warnings, updates, and information. Its other features include Data Broadcasting, with the Broadcast Mark-up Language (BML), which allows TV network stations to show the latest news, weather updates, traffic information, educational materials, and other timely information – even endorsements – onscreen even as you’re watching your favorite programs. It also offers higher quality images and sound, multichannel service that allows TV networks to transmit multiple channels in one signal, and interactivity to make TV- watching more exciting and participatory for viewers.

During the the 40th KBP Top Level Management Conference Exhibit recently held at the Taal Vista Lodge in Tagaytay, Sharp unveiled its ISDB-T-ready lineup – the only consumer electronics brand to do so. Speaking on behalf of Sharp (Phils.) Corp. during the KBP Conference was Peter Villanueva, Senior Manager for New Business Development. In his speech, he described Sharp’s commitment to the Filipinos over the years with its lineup of electronics such LED-LCD TVs, washing machines, air conditioners and air purifiers, and more. “And now with the transition to digital broadcast about to happen, Sharp is now giving Filipinos a chance to be ahead of the pack with the upgrade.
