Production of copper, zinc and silver is expected to be increased in Peru in 2015 according to Edgardo Alva, the General Director of Mining at Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines, thanks to the projects of mineral extractions such as Constancia, Cerro Verde and Toromocho.
The production of gold would remain at 141 tons this year, while silver is expected to rise 5%, reaching 4,000 tons. At the same time, copper would increase by 350,000 – 400,000 tons, reaching the amount of 1.8 billion tons. Zinc is also expected to recover from last year’s level of 160,000 tons.
The increase is due to the Constancia mine project, starting to expend during the first quarter of 2015, and the beginning of Cerro Verde expansion during the third or fourth quarter this year, as well as the Toromocho’s operations in first quarter.
